Los Angeles, CA (May 21, 2026) - Legal Soft founder and CEO Hamid Kohan appeared on Episode 136 of The Tech-Savvy Lawyer Podcast, hosted by Washington DC attorney Michael D.J. Eisenberg. The conversation focused on how law firms can put AI to work in intake, document handling, and case workflows without taking on unnecessary risk.
Eisenberg has run the podcast since 2019, helping legal professionals sort through technology decisions. Kohan joined as a guest to share what he's seen working directly with firms across multiple practice areas.
Where to start with AI
Kohan pointed to document collection as the lowest-risk entry point. Automating document requests through SMS, email, and phone calls doesn't require firms to change how attorneys work. AI can also check whether a client submitted the right document and pull structured chronologies from large record sets.
He noted that the legal AI market is crowded with single-purpose tools, and that firms are better served by platforms that cover multiple workflow stages rather than requiring a separate vendor for each task.
Three challenges firms face
Kohan outlined the 3 adoption challenges he sees most often.
First, finding the right tool. The market has too many vendors repackaging existing software with an AI label, making it hard to evaluate what's real.
Second, underestimating implementation. A tool alone doesn't produce results. He shared the example of an employment firm that changed its view of AI entirely after going through proper training with its team.
Third, signing long-term contracts too early. Kohan recommended pilot periods before any commitment and said firms should make AI usage mandatory internally, or adoption stalls at the individual level.
On what comes after AI
When asked about technologies beyond AI that attorneys should watch, Kohan's answer was direct: the priority right now is still AI. Selecting the right tool, implementing it properly, and integrating it into existing workflows is enough to focus on. Locking into multi-year contracts for discounts carries real risk in a market moving this fast.
